The police
rely on the Motor Insurance Database (MID) and the data
entered by insurers and policyholders in the fight against
road traffic crime and to reduce uninsured driving
offences.
Data on potentially uninsured vehicles is used in conjunction with Automatic Number Plate
Recognition (ANPR) cameras throughout GB police forces.
Assisted by an extract from the MID, the police are able to
quickly identify which vehicles are likely
not to be insured.
This is where
fleet and motor trade policyholders can make a difference by notifying all
changes to a fleet to the MID to enable the police to
track those drivers who are actually uninsured. Uninsured
drivers are costing your company money, since victims of
uninsured drivers are compensated by all insurers out of
premium income. Don’t delay in notifying the MID of an
update – whether it be an addition to your fleet, or the
removal of a vehicle due to its disposal, and assist the
Police in capturing the real uninsured drivers.
In addition,
any delay in updating may mean that your drivers
are inconvenienced by the police stopping them because
their details do not appear on the MID, which wastes time
for both themselves and the police!
The message is
simple: update your vehicles on the MID as quickly as
possible so that your staff aren’t inconvenienced by
unnecessary questions and the real uninsured drivers can
be stopped!
